Thanksgiving this Movember!

It’s the time of year where folks are gathering together with family and friends and celebrating all the things they have to be thankful for.  I have so much to be thankful for this year, the journey I have been on has taught me so much and still is!!  Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!  One thing I am particularly thankful for is health and November aka as Movember is Men’s Health Awareness month.  As I think about the men in my life —- I am so thankful for them!!  My boyfriend, my dad, my uncles, my brother, my cousins, friends and all!  Most all of the men I know are hard-working and I admire that in all of them, their perseverance, their determination, courage, endurance, caring spirit, and their passion for what they do.  There are many days that my own father, a dairymen only eats breakfast and then works until after 9 or 10 or even 11 o’clock at night!  Now I am sure he sneaks a snack in somewhere but my dad and many of the men in this country work, work, work, and work some more!  It is easy to take health for granted and forget to take care of oneself when life and work get busy.  This Movember I am writing about men’s health because there are many health challenges facing a high proportion of males including cancer, and specifically prostate cancer.  It is a statistical fact that one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.  While many men focus on working hard, this means they may be may be less aware of the signs and symptoms and likely have less frequent medical examinations.  So I encourage all men no matter their profession to have regular check-ups so that they can keep focusing on what matters most to them.  Because the good news is that, if prostate cancer is detected early, the cure rate nears 100%.  That’s one more reason to be thankful this Thanksgiving — all the medical advancements that allow for those we love to be cured!
